RIVULUS-GROUP

For the majority of the past 100 years, all species in the numerous genus’ in this group have been identified as Rivulus.  Then in 2004, Wilson J.E.M. Costa split Rivulus into 7 new genus and completely disrupted the hobby as fish-keepers had to learn the new genera and understand why fish were placed.  In addition Dr. J.H. Huber disputed Costa’s work and place all similar fish back into Rivulus.

Currently there are over 150 species split between the 7 genus.  The majority are found in South America with a number of species in Central America,  The Caribbean has a few species endemic to specific islands and there is a single species found in Florida, USA.
